Best Growth Apps reviews and ranks Shopify apps so store owners can choose tools with confidence. Here’s exactly how we do it — what we test, how we score, and how we make money — so you can judge our recommendations for yourself.
Our process
Every app we cover goes through the same checks before it earns a place in a review or ranking:
- Live listing data. We pull each app’s current rating, review count, pricing and feature set directly from its Shopify App Store listing, and refresh it periodically so our numbers don’t go stale.
- Hands-on and documentation review. We assess setup friction, what the free plan actually includes, where costs scale, and the edge cases (theme conflicts, mobile checkout, performance) that listings gloss over.
- Critical-review sampling. We read the 3-star reviews, not just the 5-star ones — that’s where support gaps and real-world limitations show up.
- Category comparison. We rank apps against direct competitors in the same category, never across unrelated ones.
How we score and rank
A raw star rating is a weak signal — most Shopify apps sit at 4.5★ or higher, and a 5.0 from a handful of reviews isn’t comparable to a 4.8 from thousands. So our rankings use a volume-weighted (Bayesian) score that pulls low-review apps toward the category average until they’ve earned enough reviews to prove themselves:
where R is the app’s rating, v its review count, C the average rating across apps, and m a confidence threshold. In plain terms: an app needs both a high rating and a credible number of reviews to rank at the top. This is why our “best of” lists sometimes differ from a simple sort by stars — and why we trust them more.

Found something wrong?
App listings change and we may miss an update. If a rating, price or feature looks off, tell us and we’ll verify against the live listing and correct it. Accuracy is the whole point.
