Update, 22 October 2026: Bold Discounts has been removed from the Shopify App Store. Its listing now returns “this app is not currently available” and we could not find a renamed version, so the install links below have been removed — they led to a dead page. We have left the assessment for reference. See the Bold Discounts alternatives that still exist →
What we would install instead: Dealeasy 4.9 from 640 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge, covering automatic volume and tiered discounts. It is not a like-for-like swap — Bold scheduled flash sales, Dealeasy runs quantity-based pricing — so check the mechanic you need.

Bold Discounts – Flash Sales Review (2026)
A capable sale scheduler with 504 reviews, and the highest one-star share of any app we have reviewed this year.
SCORE
/10
Bold Discounts – Flash Sales schedules automatic store-wide, collection or product-level sales on Shopify without discount codes, with countdown timers, sale icons and automatic product tagging. It holds 4.0 from 504 reviews, which includes 14% one-star ratings, and does not carry the Built for Shopify badge. The listed free plan is for development stores only; the single paid plan, Essentials, is $19.99 a month with a 14-day free trial. The app has been on the App Store since 2012 and its interface is English only.
What Bold Discounts actually does
You build a sale group, choose what it applies to, hand-selected products, a collection, or the entire store, set the discount, and give it a schedule. The app changes the prices when the window opens and puts them back when it closes, with no discount codes involved, so nothing leaks to a coupon site and nothing stacks unexpectedly. Sale groups can be re-used, which is the feature that earns its keep if you run the same 10%-off-storewide promotion several times a year. There is also a cents-override option for pricing that ends on a specific value.
On the storefront side there are three display pieces: a live countdown timer on product or collection pages, customisable sale icons or banners on discounted items, and automatic tagging so sale products flow into a collection without manual curation. Show/hide rules let you swap text or HTML on the page while a sale is active. The sale icon requires a snippet to be added to your theme, which the app flags in its own interface and which support will do on request. Everything is managed from a sales list in the admin showing each promotion’s schedule and status.

Pros & cons
- Scheduled sales that start and end themselves, re-usable for recurring promotions
- No discount codes, so nothing leaks and nothing stacks unexpectedly
- Automatic product tagging builds the sale collection for you on large catalogues
- Countdown timers and sale icons cover the urgency display without a second app
- 504 reviews and a 2012 listing date, it has been doing this a long time
- 14% one-star reviews, roughly one customer in seven, against 1-3% for comparable apps
- Recent one-star reviews report billing continuing after uninstall, verify your next invoice
- The free plan is for development stores only, so a real store starts at $19.99
- Sale icons need a code snippet added to your theme
- English only, and the listing’s screenshots still show 2020-era admin and dates

Before you spend trial time
- Run a small test sale on a handful of products before trusting it with a store-wide event
- Check that prices revert correctly when the window closes, that is the failure that costs you margin
- Get the sale-icon snippet installed on a duplicate theme first, or ask support to do it before you go live
- Schedule your test to start and end while you are awake so you can watch both transitions
- Have a manual fallback plan for your biggest sale day, given the reports of sales not firing
- If you uninstall, check your next Shopify invoice and confirm the charge has actually stopped

A 14-day free trial is available on the paid plan, and charges are billed in USD every 30 days.

Closing take
On capability this is a solid sale scheduler, and for a large catalogue the automatic tagging and re-usable sale groups save real hours around Black Friday. Plenty of merchants in the reviews say exactly that, and the 72% five-star share is not nothing.
We are scoring it at 6.0 rather than higher because of the shape of the review distribution and what the recent negatives describe. An app that occasionally fails during a time-sensitive sale, and that some customers report still charging after uninstall, carries a risk that a feature list does not capture. If you install it, test the full sale cycle in advance and check your invoice afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
Is Bold Discounts free?
Not for a live store. The listing’s free plan is explicitly marked for development stores only. The Essentials plan is $19.99 a month with a 14-day free trial, and it is the only paid tier.
Why does Bold Discounts have a 4.0 rating?
The distribution is 72% five-star and 14% one-star. The negative reviews cluster on the app not working as expected during time-sensitive sales and on billing continuing after uninstall. Most customers are satisfied; the minority that are not report expensive problems.
Do I need discount codes to run a sale?
No. Sales are applied automatically to the products, collections or whole store you select, with no codes involved, so there is nothing to leak and no unexpected stacking with other codes.
Does it require theme code changes?
The sale icon feature requires a snippet to be added to your theme, which the app flags in its own interface. Support will add it for you on request. The scheduling itself does not depend on that snippet.
Can it schedule Black Friday sales in advance?
Yes, that is its main purpose. You set start and end dates and times per sale group, and the prices change and revert automatically. Test the full cycle on a small group first so you see both transitions work.
What should I do before uninstalling?
Confirm your prices have returned to normal, then check your next Shopify invoice to make sure the subscription charge has actually stopped. Several recent one-star reviews report continued billing after uninstall.
