🎯
Our Verdict

Shopify’s variant system runs out at 100 combinations and three option names, which is fine for a t-shirt and useless for anything configurable. This is one of the apps that exists to get past that, and it does it thoroughly.

The free tier is the surprise. Sixteen option types, unlimited option sets, unlimited products and orders, options carried through to orders, packing slips and emails, bulk application across products, and no watermark. Most apps in this category put a logo on your storefront or cap your orders until you pay. For a store that needs dropdowns, checkboxes, swatches and text boxes but not conditional logic, that free tier is a complete product.

What you pay for is the harder stuff. $9.99 adds conditional logic, show this option only when that one is chosen, plus file uploads and date pickers, which together cover most personalised-product workflows. $16.99 adds cart editing (letting a customer change their configuration without starting over), country conditions and translations. $26.99 adds the pricing engine: volume discounts, percentage and discount pricing, market-specific pricing and a formula builder, which is what you need if price depends on dimensions or character count.

The gap in its credentials is the missing Built for Shopify badge, which is worth weighing for an app that injects form fields into every product page it touches. 5.0 across 424 reviews is otherwise a strong record.

What Ymq Product Options actually does

Options are built into sets and applied to products in bulk, which is the only sane way to manage this across a catalogue. The type list runs past thirty: single and multi-line text, number and integer fields, email, phone and URL inputs, dropdowns, radio buttons, checkboxes, buttons, colour and image swatches, colour and image dropdowns, file upload, date and time pickers, date ranges, range sliders, switches, headings, paragraphs, dividers and spacing for layout, plus pop-up modals and option groups. Selections flow through to the order, packing slip and confirmation email, which is where a lot of cheaper option apps quietly fail.

The pricing engine on the top tier is what turns options into revenue rather than admin. Add-on charges can be fixed or percentage, positive or negative, per character, or calculated by formula, the listing’s own example multiplies width by length to price a made-to-measure item. Volume discounts can be attached to options, and market pricing lets the same option cost different amounts in different regions. Conditional logic, from the $9.99 tier, controls which options appear based on earlier answers, and cart editing on the $16.99 tier lets a customer revise a configuration without rebuilding it.

Pros & cons

✓ Pros
  • Free tier is a complete product: 16 option types, unlimited sets, no watermark, options on orders and packing slips
  • 30+ option types including file upload, date pickers, swatches, range sliders and option groups
  • Price formula builder handles dimension-based and per-character pricing on the $26.99 tier
  • Options carry through to orders, packing slips and emails, where cheaper apps often fail
  • 5.0 from 424 reviews, with bulk application across products
✗ Cons
  • No Built for Shopify badge on an app that renders form fields on product pages
  • Conditional logic and file upload need $9.99; most personalised-product stores will need both
  • The pricing engine, formulas, volume discounts, market pricing, is the $26.99 tier
  • Thirty option types is a lot of rope; a sprawling option set is its own usability problem
  • We have not run it on a live store; this assessment comes from the listing, pricing and review distribution

Before you spend trial time

  • 1Build your most complicated product first; if the option set survives that, everything else will
  • 2Place a real test order and check the options appear on the order, packing slip and confirmation email
  • 3Decide early whether you need conditional logic, if so, start at $9.99 rather than the free tier
  • 4If price depends on dimensions or characters, test the formula builder on the $26.99 trial before committing
  • 5Check the option form on mobile, where long option sets become unusable fastest
  • 6Confirm how options behave with the cart drawer and Buy Now button, not just the standard cart

Closing take

The free tier alone makes this worth installing if you need more than Shopify’s native options and less than a full configurator, sixteen option types with no watermark and no order cap is a genuinely useful product given away.

Past that, the tiers are logically arranged: conditional logic at $9.99, cart editing and translations at $16.99, and the pricing engine at $26.99. Work out which of those three you actually need, build your hardest product during the trial, and check the order paperwork carries the options through.

Frequently asked questions

Does this get around Shopify’s 100-variant limit?

Yes. Options are handled by the app rather than as Shopify variants, so you can offer combinations far beyond the native limit, which is the main reason stores selling configurable products install something like this.

Is the free plan actually usable?

Unusually, yes. It includes unlimited option sets, products and orders, 16 option types, options shown on orders and packing slips, and no watermark. If you do not need conditional logic or file uploads, it may be all you need.

Can the price change based on what the customer chooses?

Yes. Add-on pricing is on the $9.99 tier, and the $26.99 Plus tier adds percentage and discount pricing, volume discounts, market pricing and a formula builder for things like width times length or per-character charges.

Will the options show on my orders?

The listing states options appear in orders, packing slips and emails even on the free plan. Place a real test order during setup and check all three, since this is where cheaper option apps commonly fall down.

What is conditional logic for?

Showing or hiding options based on earlier answers, engraving font only appears if engraving is selected, for instance. It keeps a long option set manageable, and it starts at the $9.99 Basic tier.

Does it carry Shopify’s Built for Shopify badge?

No. The rating is a strong 5.0 from 424 reviews, but the badge is absent, which is worth weighing for an app that renders form fields on your product pages. Test performance on your own theme.
