Quick answer

LPO Live Product Options adds unlimited custom product options beyond Shopify’s three-option limit, including text, dropdowns, swatches, file uploads, date pickers and dimension inputs, with conditional logic, price add-ons, price formulas and tiered discounts, plus a live preview showing uploads and text on the product image. It holds 4.8 from 327 reviews and carries the Built for Shopify badge. Plans are free while building, then $9 a month for 100 orders, $19 for 200 orders and $29 for 300 orders.

🎯
Our Verdict

Two things separate this from the other product-options apps in this batch, one good and one awkward.

The good one is the live preview. When a customer uploads artwork or types a name, they see it rendered on the product image, positioned where it will actually appear, with an interactive text editor for font and style. For anything personalised, printed shirts, engraved gifts, custom signage, that preview is the difference between confident orders and a support queue full of ‘what will it look like?’ emails, plus the returns that follow when the answer surprises someone. The price-formula engine is the other half: a frame priced as width times height, with square-inch or square-metre maths handled, and the price updating live as dimensions change.

The awkward one is the meter. You are billed on orders per month, and the ceilings are low: 100 orders at $9, 200 at $19, 300 at $29. Note that those are plan limits rather than per-order fees, and the listing does not show a tier above 300 orders on the main pricing block. If you are a busy store, check what happens past 300 before building your product catalogue around it. A store doing 500 orders a month needs to know the answer before, not after.

For a low-volume, high-value custom-products business, made-to-measure, commissioned, personalised, the maths is comfortable, and 4.8 from 327 reviews with Built for Shopify is a good record.

What Live Product Options actually does

Options cover the usual set, text fields, dropdowns, swatches, file uploads, date pickers, dimension inputs, with conditional logic so options appear based on earlier choices, and existing Shopify variant options can be replaced with image swatches. What is distinctive is that the product image responds: an uploaded file or typed text is composited onto the image in the position it will be produced, with interactive positioning and a text editor for font, size and style, so the customer approves what they are actually buying.

Pricing is handled by add-ons, tiered quantity discounts and a formula builder. The formula approach covers dimension-based pricing, the listing’s example calculates a frame at five by five inches producing twenty-five square inches at a set rate, and price lists can be uploaded for X by Y pricing where a formula would be clumsy. App extensions add quantity discounts, bundles, export and an AI image tool. Most themes are supported, and the listing makes a point of offering theme support, which in this category is where installs usually go wrong.

Pros & cons

✓ Pros
  • Live preview composites uploads and text onto the product image before the customer buys
  • Price formulas handle dimension-based pricing, with uploadable price lists as an alternative
  • 4.8 from 327 reviews with the Built for Shopify badge
  • Conditional logic and file uploads are included from the $9 tier, not reserved for the top plan
  • Free while you build the store, with all features included during that phase
✗ Cons
  • Metered on orders per month with low ceilings: 100, 200 and 300
  • No tier above 300 orders shown on the main pricing block, check before scaling
  • The order meter counts orders, not orders using options, so a busy store pays regardless
  • Live preview quality depends on your product photography being consistent
  • We have not run it on a live store; this assessment comes from the listing, pricing and review distribution

Before you spend trial time

  • 1Check your monthly order count against the 100, 200 and 300 ceilings before building anything
  • 2Ask support what happens above 300 orders a month if you are anywhere near it
  • 3Test the live preview with your actual product photography, not the demo images
  • 4Build your hardest price formula during the trial, dimensions, minimums, rounding
  • 5Place a real test order and confirm the uploaded file reaches you in a usable resolution
  • 6Check the preview and option form on mobile, where positioning controls are hardest to use

07

Closing take

If you sell products customers configure visually, the live preview is worth more than any other feature in this category. It converts hesitant buyers and prevents the arguments that follow when the finished item is not what someone pictured.

The constraint is volume. At 300 orders a month the pricing stops being documented on the main block, so if you are growing into that range, settle the question with support before you build your catalogue around the app rather than after.

Frequently asked questions

What makes LPO different from other product options apps?

The live preview. Uploaded artwork and typed text are composited onto the product image in position, with an interactive editor, so the customer sees the finished item before ordering. For personalised products that prevents a lot of support and returns.

How is it priced?

By orders per month: free while building the store, then $9 for 100 orders, $19 for 200 and $29 for 300. The feature set is identical on every tier, so you are buying volume rather than capability.

What happens if I exceed 300 orders a month?

The main pricing block does not show a tier above 300 orders. If your volume is near or above that, ask support what the arrangement is before building your product range around the app.

Can it price by dimensions?

Yes, through price formulas, the listing’s example prices a frame by width times height, and you can upload price lists for X by Y pricing where a formula would be awkward.

Does it get round Shopify’s three-option limit?

Yes. Options are handled by the app rather than as native variants, so you can offer unlimited options and combinations, and you can replace existing variant selectors with image swatches.

Will it work with my theme?

The listing states most themes are supported and offers theme support, which matters because option apps are where theme conflicts usually appear. Test on a duplicate theme first regardless.
